Melissa tackles this difficult passage that juxtaposes this new way of doing life–this kingdom of God way of forgiveness, grace and hope–and points out how it doesn’t mix with the old order of carrying out justice. But if that new way of doing things is one-sided, the whole thing falls apart.
When the world of punishment and grudges enters the renewed creation, it poisons everything. Forgiveness is something that is given and received that we take up into our lives and that we offer up to others.
