Scripture: Jeremiah 18:1-11, Luke 14:25-33
Melissa is back from her sabbatical and will use this month’s sermons to report on several aspects of her family’s travels and some of the learnings along the way. This Sunday she contrasted the work of Akram, a Palestinian craftsperson who recycles tear gas canisters into works of art, with Jeremiah’s telling of the potter reworking clay from a spoiled pot into a new pot.
When we look at the world described by Jeremiah, the same world we live in, it’s
hard to imagine carving out another way of life in the crushing destruction of separation walls, police violence, and militarized hate groups. What is the cost of trusting our lives to a potter who longs, who pleads for our collective life to be reworked and reshaped into thriving and wholeness?
