Melissa continues our fall series on gifts. The scripture from I Corinthians 12 focuses on the gifts that everyone brings to the benefit of the body of Christ.
The things the world prizes as powerful–it’s easy to believe that we did that. That we worked hard. That we got that education. We built that skill set. But in the church, gifts are truly gifts. They’re given not earned. They’re bestowed, not won.
Unlike climbing to the top of the social ladder or making a ton of money, the gifts of the church aren’t about possessing anything. They actually work to build everything up to create a better body of Christ.
The sermon closed with us watching a short video of Henri Nouwen talking about lessons he learned from helping to take care of a young man in a L’Arche community in Toronto. You can watch that clip here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdlDxuvI0Kw
