In the second sermon on the theme of “What is church for?”, Melissa talked about stewardship, speaking from Acts 2:38-47.
She shared the story of the Diggers. Every once in a while Christians begin to live so near to the life of Jesus, so deeply in tune with the Spirit of God at such a horrific moment in history, that their lives cannot help but take on a new shape. People who love Jesus find radical, creative ways to live out what they believe.
We carve out space on a Sunday morning to get lost in the nonsense of the gifts of God’s abundance and Jesus’ examples and teachings about how to live our lives and share out of that abundance. We might think of this space, here in worship, as a kind of setting the stage or setting the conditions for the Spirit to spark among us in all of the other parts of our lives.
