Dr. Candace Laughinghouse brought the sermon during this last Sunday in the summer series focused on Genesis 1 and creation care.
God applies purpose and abundance to the earth even before humanity’s existence. From earth’s exception to today’s reality. How did we get to this place of chaos, catastrophe, and destruction?
Today’s text reminds us that being made in the image of God involves an accountability to God’s Word, to care for the earth and maintain it. Creation wasn’t created for human pleasure and convenience. Pleasure never satisfies the deep spiritual thirst we have within to live the life we were created to live as the Imgo Dei–in the image of God.
Salvation directly involves an ethic of care for our souls and our creation. When we receive Christ, we are acknowledging that the onus is upon us to not only save ourselves, but to save and care for all of creation.
