Rachel preached from a passage not often preached about, Leviticus 12:1-8.
Leviticus is sometimes a book of the Bible that we need to read multiple times and keep wrestling with. The book spells out in a very nuts and bolts sort of way what it meant for the ancient Israelites to love your neighbor as yourself.
The book also reminds us that no part of our daily life is too mundane to not matter to God.
Wrestling with this book and this passage can help remind us we have not yet achieved gender equity, that we need to continue to order our shared economic lives so that parents have some protected space when welcoming a new child into the world, that big events that happen in our bodies impact our relationship with God and are worth holding within our worship and community.
