We believe with our bodies – April 25, 2021

April 25, 2021

Scripture: I John 3:16-24

Melissa preached for the first time from our new meeting space at Church of the Good Shepherd in downtown Raleigh while most of us were still tuning in via Zoom.

Following Jesus isn’t about fancy beliefs, personal piety or a checklist of beliefs. Whenever we have the ability to aid one another, to step up for their need, and we don’t, we stop resembling Jesus. The work of love is physical and embodied.

This past week we learned that Derek Chauvin was found guilty of killing George Floyd. A guilty verdict does not return George Floyd to his family and friends. It’s a Band-Aid on this gaping wound in our society.

We know love by this, that he laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for one another. Melissa finished the message by having us listen to a powerful song by Porter’s Gate that changed the words from a traditional hymn to “O Sacred Neck Now Wounded.”
